Yes it was cold, very cold.  I haven't plein aired for a bit and I had to prove to myself that I could do it no matter what.  So whether the painting is successful or not I'm not sure but it made me feel like a real artist out in the snow, wind and cold weather.

I like the blueness of the winter, I used a limited palette of titanium white, prussian blue, paynes grey and raw umber.

I did this print a couple of years ago, but I've never posted it. I titled it "pause"and it represents the wiseman seeking the birth of our Saviour, pausing on his trip to ask for guidance and offer thanks. It also represents what I believe we often miss at Christmas, a pause, to remember the birth of our Saviour. Merry Christmas

One thing that I have always loved about winter is the "rawness" of the colors. Everything is so complimentary in winter on yellow and blues especially.

This and the next painting Renolds were on the trail up to Hidden Lake, the smoke from all the Montana fires rolling through gave these mountains a very abstract quality that I enjoyed capturing. All that I was able to see was there silhouette and there snow at the bottom. As I painted there was a rock chuck that continuously bothered, me begging for food and checking my pack, I thought he was going to go for my foot a couple times.

I did this entire painting with a 3" brush just for fun.

I'm not sure about this painting, I did it with a large 3" brush and the skies changed every second. The smoke became so thick that everything had a hazy edge.

As I painted the tunnel the wind was crazy, There was a lot of dirt and dust that kept getting into the painting. I almost lost my tripod and paints over the cliff, luckly I caught them.

It was the longest day of the year so I did a late night painting of the local Theater I got done at 11:45pm. It was a lot of fun to see what the colors looked like when I got up the next morning.

One of my favorite things about sail boats are there names. This painting was done at the Sandpoint public beach. My favorite part of the painting is in the background how the trees meld with the water.

I loved the orange and reds contrasting with the purple blue shadows of these buildings. Along with the wires running down the middle of the alley, I couldn't resist.

A nice Big tug in East Hope Bay Idaho. At the Art show all the little boys that came in liked my tug the best, one 3 year old left his fingerprint on it. I left it there it added to the painting.
